Town Hall Meeting: Discuss our reliance on dirty coal in LA with The Sierra Club

Coal provides Los Angeles with about 40% our electricity and more than 24% of our global warming pollution.  From the mine to the plant, to the ash pond, coal is our dirtiest energy source. It causes asthma and other health problems, destroys our mountains, and releases toxic mercury into our communities.  Continuing our dependence on coal chains us to dirty energy and prevents us from making the changes we need to bring about a clean, secure energy future.  Coal has an impact on every single community – one way or another.

The Sierra Club will discuss this issue, and how we can bring about a change in the energy policies of DWP.

The Echo Park Improvement Association will continue the discussion on the fate of the CRES#14 school being built in Echo Park near Alvarado and Sunset at this month’s Neighborhood Issues Committee meeting:

Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 7:00 pm

Williams Hall, Barlow Hospital
Special Guest: Chieko Rupp, LAUSD

The LAUSD is seeking input on what kind of school will be at the site of CRES #14, and will be proposing a K-8 “Choices” school at the site. This is an opportunity for the community to find out what a “choices” school could mean to you and our existing elementary schools, and to provide LAUSD with alternative suggestions that the community might prefer.

Support Your Community. Show LAUSD that this is an important issue for us by attending.
